Synopsis
A powerful coming-of-age story of a Satmar Hassid/Orthodox girl, trapped in the body of a boy, growing up in the ancient culture of their community in Williamsburg. Yitzak was the first born boy in a high status family within this community, perhaps one of the most gender segregated communities in the modern world. But from a young age, Yitzak knows there’s something different about them. Inside them is a girl dying to be set free. This show gives a unique and nuanced take not only of the Orthodox community in New York, with all it’s intricacies, politics and traditions. But also a beautiful study of the journey Yitzak embarks on to become her authentic self, during and after her departure from the community.
